Some time ago I found the web site of Michael Whelan one of my favorite artists. Still thinking about getting that autographed copy of “Passage: Verde”.
Have a couple more sites nearing completion. The Student Technology Fee Action Committee web site was a pet project for the Assistant to the President for IT, my divison boss. Think it is cool that he comes down to talk to the “troops” so to speak. That also means that he can mention a problem with something so the we jump to correct it.
Working on updating the Academic Committee site for the Faculty Senate. Just a mock up right now. Later if this is approved, will move this to the real place and make it work.
UPDATED 24-MAR-2010: Links to web sites removed as the sites have moved.
LHS beat VHS is a grueling fight that lasted through a normal football game plus 2 over time periods. Both teams fielded superb defenses racking up several sacks, interceptions, fumbles, and tackles behind the line of scrimmage against offenses not used to battling so hard for first down. These teams are cross town rivals. LHS has not won in VHS’ stadium since 1980.
So to win here against a team even the coaches tremble at the thought of playing, is spectacular. The rules in this case for overtime is that 2 halves are played. Whoever encroaches the furthest into the other’s territory wins. Before overtime LHS had 2 of many drives actually reach field goal range. VHS came closer to that range quite a few times.
After the first half of overtime it was obvious our defense which had played more of the game than our offense was extremely tired. They allowed the VHS to encroach over to their own 48 before they forces VHS to punt.
On a good return, LHS needed almost 30 yards to get even with VHS. On a 3rd and long, the running back broke through to give LHS a first down. Then a perfect pass across the middle 2 downs later almost gave LHS the lead in encroachment. Short 2 yards, a run up the middle gives LHS the lead by a yard. With only 2 minutes to go LHS executed several great plays to gain even more yardage to come within 10 yards of the VHS touchdown zone. Having won, LHS simple protected the ball with downs to run out the clock and win the game.
This is what a football game should be like. Now I wish I had gone to a university with a great football team and strong rivalries with other schools. This is something I missed while being at LHS as the football team was just developing under this coach. In the last 20 meetings, LHS has only won 3 times 1985, 1999, and now 2000. The first 2 were at LHS’ stadium.
I’d say this was one of the better weekends I have had.
This election has me nervous about the state of the union. Either candidate is a puppet, one more than the other, but all in all puppets. They have grave responsibility with little power to exercise their conscience.
What truly irks me is someone who campaigns beyond their capability. How can Gore or Bush provide legislation? How could Nader do anything except be an ineffective President with no allies in the Congress? Presidents ask their allies (read party members) in the Congress to write up a bill that does what they want to do. That bill more than likely will have the congress member’s name on it, not the president’s.
The flip side is that a President’s allies in the Congress can only get bi-partisan legistlation through. Any truly liberal legislation is going to be opposed by the conservatives.
The Baha’i method without this campaigning fiasco is truly the better method in my opinion. If we wish to have representative government, then why do we pretend to vote on the president? How many Americans truly understand that they are NOT voting on the president? Doubt it is most. Especially since every election year I hear the same question about “why are there people listed under the candidates name?”
At least I voted.
All the hard work on the Politics & the Web Survey hopefully is over. It is a REALLY long survey at 192 responses or so. The survey changes on Election Day. Don’t fill it out more than once (or at least use different email addresses, computers, or far apart times to disquise that you did).
Mom asked what I wanted as a college graduation present. K-Mart happened to be having a closing sale, so we visited it. She got me an Olympus Stylus Zoom 115 QD Date 35mm Camera for me to play with at photography. It’s my first camera. All the other cameras I previously used belonged to someone else.
UPDATE 24-MAR-2010: Link to the survey removed as site is gone.
My first online newspaper credit is from the Spectator at VSU. About my role in online Homecoming Queen voting. Of course, I did more, but they don’t need to know that do they?
*whew* Load off my back. Homecoming is actually going okay. No snaffus today (unlike Tuesday when I got to run around trying to make sure that the problems would get fixed).
My name got in the paper. Not as often as some other people like Chris or Joe. Will add a link the story in the paper to that when they get the web edition online.
Feels like a good day. Took an enterprising look at my résumé. Needs some more skills I think. The skills list is way too compact… I mean, how many people claim they know 3 WYSIWIG editors, 4 graphics editors, and 3 FTP programs? Do think that the list of organizations should be expanded to include more professional organizations. A curriculum vita is a possibility that I might add for the 2 workshops I did.
Seeing Sarah and Angie last night was pretty cool. Enjoy the constant laughing. Maybe that is why I enjoy all my female friends… we have fun even if it is just dinner and a movie.
UPDATED 25-MAR-2010: The résumé link now goes to the current CV which has a password on it. Sorry, leaving it online started a swarm of headhunters wanting me for Luminis contract work when clearly it says the little I know doesn’t qualify me.
Had an enjoyable night. Attended another Lowndes High Vikings football game where the defense more or less shut down a great offense. Saw lots of alumni I knew in school. Thought the game rocked.
After the game, read in Sports Illustrated that they were going to show the Men’s Soccer USA vs. Cameroon game on TV. Unfortunately, they were going to show the game on a channel I don’t have, which sucks. Maybe I will be able to catch the Women’s Soccer USA vs. China ?
