Rants, Raves, and Rhetoric v4

Safeguards

I think I would have to agree with “Security doesn’t create trust“. A couple years ago, I installed a personal firewall called ZoneAlarm. All the hits and logs just bred paranoia, increased work in opening holes just large enough for my other work, and made doing stuff with the computer harder. It seemed like many of the problems I encountered had to do with fixing a complication ZA made.

Every safeguard made has a weakness. One could of course make the defenses stronger. However, I think most of us are really looking for that “just enough”.

We want the “bad” people to work harder and not abuse our computing resources. We want the “good” people to not have to jump through so many hoops they give up using the computing resources.

Trust is really about risks and faith.

I definitely do not trust any strangers to know my birthday, my mother’s maiden name, or Social Security Number. The risk of misuse is identity theft which might lead to bankruptcy.

On the other hand, I do shop online. So I do have some faith in some strangers.

I know about That!! *huge grin* Finally. hm…Trust is good, but has to be specified…Saying you trust someone is like saying you are prepared to be disappointed…because you will, unless you specify exactly what you trust, in that person…not to tell your secrets, go out on you, steal from you, wear your underwear…Once people have been let down, they cry, “But I trusted you!” The other person is thinking…I didn’t betray your trust…you never told me I couldn’t do that…Is this comment necessary…doubtful…but, at least, I got to say SOMETHING in this space!! Peace! GFW
