Stop Digital Piracy

According to Eisner in this Reuters article, “Congress needs to encourage common ways of stopping digital piracy of movies, TV shows and other entertainment products that threatens to stifle industry innovation…”. If you are already of the opinion that the media industy has no innovation, then I guess digital piracy is supposed to make it worse?

The last truly innovative movie I’ve seen in theatres was Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Don’t get me wrong, I loved The Fellowship of the Ring. I have seen it more times in theatres than any other movie. Still it was not really very innovative.

We have become a culture of recycling everything. Trends and ideas. Bell bottoms, afros, recycled plots, and boy bands no one can articulate the difference between except names. Usually I don’t mind it. If something works, then why change it? Innovation is good, but don’t blame it on something that is not really having that much of an impact. CD sales were up during a recession until 9-11. The losses during that period was enough to give them a 4% loss for the year.
