Went to vote yesterday. They were using the new electronic systems. How is this for scary? The voting apparatus had Diebold on it. Instant flashback to this article I read a while back. After originally reading the article, I thought, “Hope we are not using [Diebold] here.”
New Security Woes for E-Vote Firm
Apparently I missed another article on the secretiveness and shadiness about Diebold. Some from the 2nd article quotes:
“Now a former worker in Diebold’s Georgia warehouse says the company installed patches on its machines before the state’s 2002 gubernatorial election that were never certified by independent testing authorities or cleared with Georgia election officials.”
Apparently, Diebold has the machines patched after they are certified. “She said the practice of patching systems after they’ve been certified opens the possibility for anyone — from Diebold employees to local election officials — to install malicious code on a machine that could alter election results and then delete itself to avoid detection.”
The patching method is to place the files on a FTP site and have the tech obtain them there. 😉 A completely open FTP server is how the Sequoia voting software was leaked.
Did E-Vote Firm Patch Election?
How is it that this is not as big as the FL recount? Maybe I need to move to a state where they use something safe? Like paper?
