We generally believe <a href=\"http:\/\/nymag.com\/scienceofus\/2016\/11\/everyone-thinks-theyre-more-moral-than-everyone-else.html?mid=twitter_scienceofus\" target=\"_blank\">we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re better or more correct than everyone else<\/a>, or at least better than most people \u00e2\u20ac\u201d a psychological quirk that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s as true for politics and religion as it is for things like fashion and lifestyles. And in a time when it seems like we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re all more convinced than ever of our own rightness, social scientists have begun to look more closely at an antidote: a concept called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/publication\/299472932_Holding_specific_views_with_humility_Conceptualization_and_measurement_of_specific_intellectual_humility\" target=\"_blank\">intellectual humility<\/a>&#8230; which\u00c2\u00a0has to do with understanding the limits of one\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s knowledge. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a state of openness to new ideas, a willingness to be <a href=\"http:\/\/thethrivecenter.org\/research\/research-projects\/the-science-of-intellectual-humility\/\" target=\"_blank\">receptive to new sources of evidence<\/a>, and it comes with significant benefits: People with intellectual humility are both <a href=\"http:\/\/splash.abc.net.au\/newsandarticles\/blog\/-\/b\/2238758\/four-ways-to-teach-intellectual-humility-to-students\" target=\"_blank\">better learners<\/a> and better able to engage in civil discourse. Google\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s VP in charge of hiring, Laszlo Bock, has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/02\/23\/opinion\/sunday\/friedman-how-to-get-a-job-at-google.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\">claimed it as one of the top qualities<\/a> he looks for in a candidate: Without intellectual humility, he has said, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153you are unable to learn.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I wonder how my wanting to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ezrasf.com\/wplog\/2017\/03\/25\/let-me-explain-let-me-sum-up\/\">explain things<\/a> tied in with my\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sneezypb.wordpress.com\/2016\/02\/17\/imposter-syndrome\/\">Imposter Syndrome<\/a> derails the above overestimations.
