QotD: Better than the original?

BBC Sessions
The Jimi Hendrix Experience

What is your favorite cover song?
Question submitted by Ray.

First, a disclaimer: I really don't know enough about the songs I hear to know they are covers.

I really like a cover of Daytripper by The Jimi Hendrix Experience from the BBC Radio One back before they were American legends. While the Beatles did a good job, I like Jimi's better.

I had heard Jimi was better live than the studio cuts. While these technically in a studio, they were fairly impromptu and not a result of them playing hours upon hours. I think this CD set convinced me. 🙂

A couple of other items to add to this post. I realized these are songs I loop over and over without remorse….

Nina Simone's Sinner Man is fantastic in the chase scene of the Thomas Crown Affair. I am a little peeved that the only version I can find of this on iTunes is the Felix the Housecat remix unless I buy an entire album. Paying $10 for a song I want seems like going backwards. So I do play the remix until I finally find the one I want.

Also, Silence, the Delerium remix of the DJ Tiesto remix of the Sarah McLachlan original Silence was once the most used track on Club compilations. So there are eight of versions of this in my CD collection. Yeah!
